Celebrating colours
Their patchwork-hoodies has been called premium streetclothes at its finest and has been acclaimed by worldwide style sources such as style.com and Coolhunter. Since starting Devandervar in 2005, the duo (graduates from Denmark’s Design School) has reaped immense recognition among streetstyle bloggers and the sweaters has become a hard-to-come-by item. CopenhagenStreetStyle met up with the two designers Tina Schou and Sofie Edvard Nielsen for a quick chat.
Tell us about your background?
We’re Tina Vanda Schou and Sofie Edvard Nielsen. Both educated from Danmarks Designskole, Copenhagen Denmark, in 2005. We have both been studying in Holland for a period during our education.
What is the vision of the company?
Keep on experimenting and being creative. To inspire the world with colors.
Where does the name come from?
The name DEVANDERVAR is an anagram of our middle names Vanda and Edvard. We also chose this name, because we liked the idea of our two personalities as a new unified whole, DEVANDERVAR. Besides that, we like that everyone finds their own meaning with the name. It is our experience that the name gives people different associations and thereby the name itself means something different to everyone.
How would you describe Devandervar to someone who’s never heard about it or seen it?
Mosaic, ornament lines, casual and colors!
From what do you draw your inspiration?
It can be everywhere. Art, music, past, present and future.
What is your take on Danish/Copenhagen fashion today? How would you describe it?
Today there is a close line between fashion, art and music, which creates an inspiring environment.
What is your plan for the future? Do you plan to expand the concept?
Absolutely!
Do you have any tips for (other) new up-and coming designers?
Be strong and have fun!
